on September 24, 2019, 9:13am

Sir Paul McCartney guested on Monday night’s Late Show with Stephen Colbert. The Beatles legend was there to promote his new children’s book, Hey Grandude, but he spoke at length about a variety of topics. He revealed his favorites Beatles covers (Marvin Gaye’s rendition of “Yesterday” is his favorite, though he also name-checked Frank Sinatra, Elvis, and Ray Charles), reacted to BTS’ impromptu cover of “Hey Jude” during their own recent Late Show appearance, and discussed how he often dreams about John Lennon.

Elsewhere, McCartney spoke about the art of songwriting, returning to Ed Sullivan Theatre, watching Jimi Hendrix’s wildly-out of-tune “Sgt. Pepper’s” cover, and sneaking into a movie theater to see the recently released Beatles-inspired film, Yesterday.

In related news, a new box set celebrating the 50th anniversary of The Beatles’ Abbey Road is due out on September 27th. McCartney and Ringo Starr also have new music on the way in the form of a collaborative cover of Lennon’s “Grow Old With Me”.
