M83 conveys urgency on new song “Lune de Fiel”: Stream

on September 12, 2019, 12:48pm

Next week brings the release of DSVII, a new collection of music from M83. The project is the sequel to 2007’s Digital Shades Vol. 1 and features arrangements inspired by early ’80s sci-fi films, video games, and the ambient works of Brian Eno. In anticipation, the producer born Anthony Gonzalez is sharing the second single, “Lune de Fiel”.

Following “Temple of Sorrow” from earlier this month, this new cut unfurls much like a piece of cinema. Though its beginnings are dreamlike and otherworldly, it’s not long before things take a turn. The synths grow ever urgent, revealing a more forbidding landscape.

Rather fittingly, “Lune de Fiel” is paired with an eerie black-and-white video filled with masked and hooded creatures. The clip is the second installment of the three-part short film Extazus, helmed by French experimental director Bertrand Mandico.

DSVII, which was created using only analog equipment, is officially out September 20th through Mute. Gonzalez’s last M83 album came with Junk from 2016.
