Hillary Clinton surprises Katy Perry with humanitarian award during UNICEF event

on November 30, 2016, 10:35am

While Donald Trump continues to map out his plans for gutting the country, Hillary Clinton has lived a modest yet fulfilling life in the days since losing the presidential election. She’s been spotted shopping at local businesses with her family, hiking in the woods near her home, and advocating for the protection of children, as she’s done for the past 30 years. She even logged back onto Twitter to follow Snoop Dogg.

Clinton’s latest post-election sighting took place at the UNICEF Snowflake Ball on Tuesday, where she surprised Katy Perry with the Audrey Hepburn Humanitarian Award. In addition to being a likeminded humanitarian like Clinton, the pop star campaigned hard on behalf of the politician, performing “Roar” and “Rise” at the Democratic National Convention as well as doing some pretty wild things to help get out the vote.

“On a personal level, I cannot tell you how delighted I am to be here to help celebrate a global megastar, a social-media queen with the most Twitter followers in the world — although she’s getting some competition — and someone whose powerful voice and creative lyrics remind us when you get knocked down to get back up,” Clinton said in her presentation speech (via The Daily Beast).

“I have seen Katy’s commitment to the causes she believes in firsthand,” she continued. “I’ve gotten to spend time with her and I know how deeply she cares about making our world a better place. She is serious about understanding the complex problems we face and pulling people together to solve them. We need champions like Katy now more than ever: her passion, her energy and, yes, her voice, louder than a lion.”

Perry, in turn, was moved by Clinton’s cameo appearance and kind words. “Does anyone have a tissue?” she asked the crowd, before adding, “Hillary Clinton has lit a voice inside of me, and that light will never go out. It will continue to get brighter and brighter.” The singer then closed by offering a heartfelt thank you to the politician on behalf of the “millions of people who appreciate you, your incredible work, and your heart.”
