When Mick Jagger sang, “I’ve got no expectations/ To pass through here again,” on 1968’s Beggars Banquet, clearly he wasn’t talking about fatherhood. After all, the 72-year-old frontman of The Rolling Stones has given shelter to seven of his children, who have all no doubt learned they can’t always get what they want, and now he’s adding an eighth midnight rambler.
As first reported by The Sun and later confirmed by Billboard, Jagger and his 29-year-old girlfriend, ballerina Melanie Hamrick, are currently expecting a child. The news comes only two months after the lanky singer-songwriter’s fellow co-conspirator Ronnie Wood fathered twins at the tender age of 68. Perhaps both of them tore a page from their closer, “One More Try”.
Of course, it should be noted that Jagger was 43 when Hamrick was born. In other words, while he was out doing the “Harlem Shuffle” on 1986’s miserable Dirty Work, the future mother of his future child was still hanging out in the womb, all cool, calm, and collected. The two wouldn’t cross paths until 2014, when they started dating. So, we’ll let you have fun with that math.
