The Pygmalion Festival has revealed its MUSIC and LIT lineups for 2016. Now in its 12th year, the Champaign-Urbana, IL festival continues its tradition of pairing musical acts with critically acclaimed writers. This year’s fest will take place over a record eight days, from Friday, September 16th through Saturday, September 24th. The music portion runs three days, September 22nd – September 24th.
Baltimore-based synth pop outfit Future Islands will headline the musical lineup. They’ll be joined by LA hip-hop star Vince Staples, the newly reunited Wolf Parade, Scottish rockers Frightened Rabbit, and Canadian indie poppers Alvvays. Other notable acts include Louis The Child, Car Seat Headrest, Russian Circles, Prince Rama, AJJ, The Hood Internet x ShowYouSuck, Foxing, The World Is A Beautiful Place And I Am No Longer Afraid To Die, and Joan Of Arc.
Also playing are Poster Children, Lucy Dacus, Aloha, Mild High Club, Psychic Ills, and more.
The 2016 LIT lineup features literary stars such as Jean Thompson, Tyehimba Jess, Chicago Sun-Times columnist Neil Steinberg, and National Book Critics Circle Award winner Eula Biss. Thompson and Jess, both former University of Illinois professors, will join a pair of award-winning former students in Kim Chinquee and Matthew Minicucci.
As was the case in 2015, this year’s Pygmalion Festival will include a TECH component as well as an outdoor food festival. The Pygmalion FOOD Festival will take place in Downtown Champaign on September 16–17.
