Olivia Wilde to direct Red Hot Chili Peppers’ “Dark Necessities” video

on June 04, 2016, 3:00pm

Olivia Wilde currently stars in HBO’s latest rock ‘n’ roll drama series Vinyl. That’s not the only music-related project she’s got in the works, however. The Tron: Legacy and Her actress has been tapped to direct the forthcoming music video for Red Hot Chili Peppers single “Dark Necessities”.

As Billboard points out, over the last few weeks, Wilde has been posting a number of Instagram pictures chronicling her time on the “Dark Necessities” set. One shows her directing model Noelle Mulligan, while another captures Wilde hiding her baby bump.

“Chad Smith tearing up this crazy kit last night after I asked him to play at double the normal speed,” Wilde captioned another photo in which drummer Will Ferrell Smith can be seen doing what he does best. There are also a pair of images of her slate, which reveal that cinematographer Chris Blauvelt (Where the Wild Things Are, Zodiac) is also on-board for the visual.

Wilde previously directed the music video for Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros’ “No Love Like Yours”.

“Dark Necessities” is off the Peppers’ upcoming album, The Getaway, out June 17th.
