Live tributes to Prince have become concert staples in the weeks since his passing. Everyone from Beyoncé to Bruce Springsteen has turned in their ode to the Purple One, and now you can add Beck to the list.
During his headlining performance at the Beale Street Music Festival, Beck delivered his cover of Prince’s classic “Raspberry Beret”. It’s a song he’s performed on multiple occasions over the years, and one he even credits as inspiration for his own track “Debra” off Midnite Vultures. (A fact that makes Prince presenting Beck with the 2015 Grammy Award for Album of the Year for Morning Phase perhaps even more meaningful.) Bathed in purple light while on stage Sunday evening, however, it never felt more right.
Check out the performance above. You can also revisit past Prince tributes from the likes of My Morning Jacket, D’Angelo and Maya Rudolph, David Gilmour, Janelle Monaé, Sufjan Stevens, LCD Soundsystem, and Pearl Jam.
