Prince’s death caught the entire world off guard — including the musician himself. According to his sister, Tyka Nelson, Prince had no known will at the time of his death, making for a potentially complex and contentious fight over his massive fortune and bank vault of unreleased material.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Nelson has filed paperwork asking to be appointed executor of his estate. In documents filed Tuesday in Carver County probate court in Minneapolis, Nelson said immediate action is necessary in order to manage Prince’s business interests.
Prince was married twice, but both ended in divorce. He had no children, and both his parents are deceased. Tyka Nelson is his only living sibling.
Update – Wednesday, April 27th at 4:50 p.m. CT: Prince had no will, a judge has confirmed. At the request of Nelson, the judge has appointed Bremer Trust as administrator of the estate, according to TMZ.
