Ava DuVernay to adapt A Wrinkle in Time for Disney

on February 24, 2016, 11:09am

Ava DuVernay has her work cut out for her. After wisely dodging any projects set up at Marvel, the Selma director has now filled her schedule with a couple exciting projects.

As Deadline reports, DuVernay has just agreed to adapt Madeleine L’Engle’s 1963 Newbery Medal-winning fantasy classic novel, A Wrinkle in Time, for Disney. Oscar-winning writer Jennifer Lee (Frozen) wrote the script, which revolves around a young girl searching for her missing government scientist father, who’s been working on the otherworldly tesseract.

Also coming her way is Intelligent Life, an exciting sci-fi thriller for Dreamworks by Jurassic World’s Colin Trevorrow and Derek Connolly. Academy Award winner Lupita Nyong’o is attached to the film that follows a UN worker tasked to represent mankind in their first contact with aliens. Spoiler: Said worker winds up falling in love with one.

The former is a done deal, while the latter is still in negotiations. So, what’s the lesson here? Well, for those in Hollywood riding any wave of success, it might behoove you to stave off the blockbuster offers for a little while and wait just a little longer for something more eclectic and special.
