Sensual isn’t exactly the first word that comes to mind when describing an argument or clashing of two parties — but then again, Sexy Fights aren’t your run-of-the-mill dream pop act. The rising Chicagoans pride themselves on melding opposites, bringing together genre elements of the past and future, and harnessing a raucous kind of energy from usually calming wellsprings (a press release dubs them “celestially riotous”).

This boundary-less approach to songwriting was on display on the band’s previous single, last month’s “Bending Light”, a throbbing night-time cut that polished modern-day synthpop with an ’80s sheen; it recalled Chromatics if they dimmed the lights and turned up the heat just a couple notches.

Sexy Fights again throw listeners for a sonic loop on their latest offering titled “The End”. Here, glistening, synth-rock arrangements seemingly sourced from outer space mingle with clouds of smoky soul, making for something akin to a retro, intergalactic ballad. If you find yourself questioning the limits of genres and time-specific music, well … Sexy Fights have successfully done their job.

Listen in below.

“The End”, as well as “Bending Light”, appears on Sexy Fights’ full-length debut, Too Far Out, which hits shelves on March 4th through Feeltrip Records.
