U2 are amidst a lengthy residency at New York City’s famed Madison Square Garden. Though the concerts have consistently featured special guests, last night’s show was perhaps the most star-studded gig of the eight-night stint. The show featured an appearance from Laurie Anderson, the singer and wife of the late Lou Reed, as well as a surprise performance from Paul Simon. The local hero helped Bono and the band cover his “Mother and Child Reunion” for a rapturous crowd.

Watch fan-caught footage of the collaboration below.

Also in attendance was a woman named Alyssa, who was the individual who first called 911 to report Bono’s bicycle accident in Central Park last year, who was seated with the Engine 44 firefighters who helped the fallen singer. As Stereogum notes (via The Associated Press), despite Bono giving her a warm welcome (thought he flubbed her hometown), Madison Square Garden’s audience wasn’t too fond of her. In fact, they booed Alyssa after she made some snarky remarks about NYC:

“So I have to clarify, it’s Alyssa and I’m from D.C., not Denver… Here’s what happened: I was running in Central Park, there was an accident, obviously I had to stop and help because I’m not from New York, I’m from Virginia, where people are nice.”

You have to give her credit for having the cojones to badmouth an entire city in the city’s most world-renowned venues.

In related news, U2 crashed a U2 fansite party and jammed with a cover band earlier this week.
