Mas Ysa innately fills his music with emotion, even when he’s trying to make a club track. Past singles “Gun”, “Margarita” and “Look Up” from his debut LP, Seraph, all pulse through various levels of reverb to pull at heartstrings. The latest cut from the album, “Arrows”, wanted instead to beat on the dance floor, but Thomas Arsenault just couldn’t keep himself from digging deeper.
“’Arrows’ is sort of a Euro club banger, but also a very personal love song,” Arsenault said in a press release. “It comes out of me wanting to make a universal, club-ready track but unwittingly giving into emotion.”
While the track indeed includes a dance-ready beat and club-friendly conglomeration of synth builds, the lyrics tell a different story. In his unflappably affecting howl, Arsenault sings, “How can I kiss you now/ If there’s something there I owe?” Take a listen below.
Seraph is due out July 24th on Downtown Records. Find Mas Ysa’s supporting tour schedule with Tanlines here and the album tracklist below.
