If you don’t believe in magic clearly you’ve never witnessed a Bonnaroo Superjam! Each year, the festival rounds together a hodgepodge of unlikely collaborators and throws them on-stage for a two-and-a-half hour jam session. This year’s edition, officially dubbed the “80s Throwback Superjam,” teamed Metallica bassist Rob Trujillo with Chance the Rapper, DMC of Run-DMC, and comedian Reggie Watts.
The festivities were actually kicked off by two non-musicians, as Jon Hamm and Zach Galifianakis led the audience in a rousing rendition of “We Are the World”. (Earlier in the day, Hamm crashed Belle and Sebastian’s set, and also performed with Galifianakis inside Bonnaroo’s comedy tent.) Another surprise cameo saw Corey Feldman come on-stage during a performance of “Eye of the Tiger” and throw glitter into the crowd.
Also during the set, Chance the Rapper performed “Juicy”, Bell Biv DeVoe’s “Poison”, and Montell Jordan’s “This is How We Do It”; DMC rapped through “Tricky” and “Walk This Way”; and SZA sang Michael Jackson’s “The Way You Make Me Feel”.
Watch video of Hamm feeding Belle and Sebastian’s Stuart Murdoch gummy bears (14:30 mark).
