FIDLAR announce sophomore album, Too, share hilarious video for “40oz on Repeat” — watch

on June 02, 2015, 10:20am

With a snot-nosed yet undeniably fun brand of garage punk, FIDLAR rumbled into the scene in 2013 with their self-titled debut. Now, the LA outfit have announced their return with their aptly named sophomore album, Too.

Due September 4th via Wichita and Mom + Pop, the twelve-track effort kicks off with the lead single “40oz On Repeat”, a track that’s been previewed live for a bit now. Much like their clip for “Cocaine”, the “40oz On Repeat” video is an easy contender for one of the best videos of the year. The band’s humor is on full display as they switch between budget versions of classic videos with cardboard props and sets. They dress up like everyone from Missy Elliot to Britney Spears, Beastie Boys to Jamiroquai, and just tons more.

All the icon references may be a play on the fact that the track is possibly their poppiest to date, and even includes the line, “I just scream and shout that I’ll never sell out/ I’ll never sell out, man!/ (Wait, how much?).” Either way, it’s a solid introduction to the record and a funny as heck clip. Check it out below, followed by a list of all the videos that inspired it, as well as the Too tracklist and artwork. Pre-order packages are available at the band’s website.

Sugar Ray – “Fly”
Suicidal Tendencies – “Institutionalized”
Missy Elliott – “The Rain (Supa Dupa Fly)”
Devo – “Jocko Homo”
Weezer – “Undone — The Sweater Song”
Eminem – “The Real Slim Shady”
The Beastie Boys – “(You Gotta) Fight For Your Right (To Party!)”
Jamiroquai – “Virtual Insanity”
The Hives – “Walk Idiot Walk”
Oasis – “Wonderwall”
Soundgarden – “Black Hole Sun”
Korn – “Freak On A Leash”
Britney Spears – “…Baby One More Time”
George Michael – “Faith”
