Miley Cyrus and Laura Jane Grace perform acoustic version of Against Me!’s “True Trans Soul Rebel” — watch

on May 11, 2015, 11:50am

Miley Cyrus continues to churn out performance videos as part of her new charity video series, the Happy Hippie Backyard Sessions. After teaming with Cyrus and Joan Jett to cover The Replacements’ “Androgynous” with Cyrus and Joan Jett, Against Me! frontwoman Laura Jane Grace and drummer Atom Willard are back with a performance one of their own songs.

With the nonprofit founder providing backup vocals on the chorus, Against Me! delivered an acoustic rendition of the Transgender Dysphoria Blues standout “True Trans Soul Rebel”. As one of the few modern anthems for the trans community, it’s a perfect choice for a charity helping “young people to fight injustice facing homeless youth, LGBT youth and other vulnerable populations.” Even stripped down, the song packs a powerful message coming from Grace’s infallible voice, with Cyrus doing some of her best vocal work on the subtle harmonies. She may be pumping these videos out, but darn it if they aren’t some impressive clips. Watch below.

The first video in the series featured Jett and Cyrus covering the former’s “Different”.
