Dope is a new coming of age story for the “post hip-hop generation,” directed by Rick Famuyiwa (Brown Sugar, Our Family Wedding). The film, which features ASAP Rocky in his big screen debut, premiered at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year to much acclaim. It’s now slated for a wider theatrical release on June 19th. Watch the latest trailer below.

The film follows a self-proclaimed ’90s “hip-hop geek” named Malcolm (played by Shameik Moore) as he attempts to leave behind his crime-ridden neighborhood in Inglewood, California for the halls of Harvard. The film also stars Zoë Kravitz, Forest Whitaker, Tony Revolori, and Blake Anderson, and includes cameos from other rappers like Vince Staples and Casey Veggies. Pharrell Williams executive produced the film and contributed to the soundtrack, penning four new songs for Malcolm’s fictional band.
