Listen: School of Seven Bells’ final recording

on June 24, 2014, 2:30pm

On December 29th, 2013, School of Seven Bells founding member Benjamin Curtis died at the age of 35 following a lengthy battle with a rare type of Non-Hodgkins Lymphona. Up until his death, however, Curtis was still making music. Today, we get to hear his final recording in the form of a cover of Joey Ramone’s 2001 song “I Got Knocked Down (But I’ll Get Up)”.

Recorded entirely on Curtis’ laptop at the hospital, Curtis gives Ramone’s spirited punk original a weightless and dreamy composition, with vocals from SVIIB partner Alejandra Deheza. Listen in to the life-affirming track below.

The song is also available to buy on iTunes. A corresponding music video is expected to surface tomorrow.
