Kelis has stayed quite busy since releasing her latest album, Food, back in April. She’s maintained her cooking show, Saucy and Sweet, and has upcoming festival appearances at Glastonbury, Pukkelpop, and Fuji Rock. With her hands full, she’s now enlisted several artists to remix the Food track “Friday Fish Fry” for a new EP, due out July 14th via Ninja Tune.
As our first taste (pun definitely intended), Thievery Corporation’s Rob Garza unveils his scintillating remix. Here, Garza takes the song from a spirited showcase at the Apollo Theater to a spirited dance party in the EDM tent of a major music festival. Replacing the horns and blues guitar riffs with pulsing synth beats and eerie vocal samples gives the track a pumped-up sense of darkness.

The Friday Fish Fry EP will also include remixes from Darq E. Freaker, Maribou State, and Visionist. Pre-orders are ongoing. In a related remix, Machinedrum recently gave his vibrant take on the album track “Runnin”.
