Youth’s presence is certainly felt on the album’s lead single, “Hang Up”, as the loud, bombastic rocker combines the best parts of Bauhaus and Killing Joke. The biggest highlight, however, has to be Murphy’s vocals, which sound as vibrant as ever. Watch the song’s accompanying video below.
In an interview with Billboard last May, Murphy called the album “a mixture of stuff…almost like operas for the dispossessed. It’s very romantic and very deep and emotional, quite symphonic in places, but then becomes, like, a rabble-rousing pirate sea shanty.” A press release adds that Lion “possesses an elegant master of tone – bass heavy, stark, shimmering and symphonic. It sustains a heart-in-throat tension from start to finish.”
In support of its release, he’ll set out on an extensive North American tour beginning in May. You can find the full tour schedule here.
