Watch: Avey Tare’s Slasher Flicks’ video for “Little Fang”, starring a creepy Jim Henson puppet

Avey Tare’s Slasher Flicks, the new project from Animal Collective’s Avey Tare, will release their debut full-length, Enter the Slasher House, on April 8th. Today, they’ve shared the video for the album’s lead single, “Little Fang”, which is the name of the clip’s star puppet, who was actually created by Jim Henson’s Creature Shop. However, this furry little guy isn’t something for the kids.

Directed by Avey’s sister Abby Portner, the mini-horror film depicts Little Fang’s psychedelic trip to the Carnival, which may explain the involvement of Michael Wick (who previously worked on Nightmare Before Christmas). The video was shot on location at Dorton’s Los Angeles Carnival in Riverside, CA and at McCadden Studio Space in Hollywood, CA.

“I think my goal for this video was to keep everything mostly in camera and handmade,” Portner explains. “I ended up using visual effects throughout the video, but I really wanted to showcase the craft of the things that were made like the puppet and physical set pieces. I also wanted to reference horror movies, like the car scene in Psycho and the lake in Malibu that the little girl climbs out of in the original Frankenstein. Dave [Portner] and I were inspired by Jim Henson, who had a funny dark side, so we tried to make a video that also had light-hearted dark side.”
