With a knack for combining indelible melodies with somewhat off-kilter production and vocal delivery, Toronto-based musician Lowell is well-suited for candy-coated pop songs. Take for example “The Bells”, the latest single off her debut EP, I Killed Sara V.
Here, she aims for a more straightforward pop sound, scrapping some of the noisier elements of her past offerings — namely the bleating instrumentals of “88” and the frenetic musical onslaught of “Cloud 69” — in favor of fluttering electronics and an emphatic, hook-laden chorus.
