on October 09, 2013, 3:22pm

Austin psych-rock outfit Shearwater return with Fellow Travelers, a new covers albums due out November 25th via Sub Pop. But the Texas troupe aren’t just re-imagining any old song — they’re covering material from their fellow tour mates, including St. Vincent, Coldplay, and Wye Oak. In a statement, frontman Jonatham Meiburg called the LP “his favorite Shearwater album so far,” likening the recording process to “leafing through a scrapbook.”

We’ve already heard Shearwater’s take on Xiu Xiu, now comes their piercing rendition of The Baptist Generals’ “Fucked Up Life”, off their 2002 Void Touching Faster Victuals EP. Meiburg’s vigorous, crystal-clear vocals cause the cover to strike a far deeper chord than its original and it’s rather breathtaking at moments. Listen in below.
