Lo-fi indie pop bands probably aren’t the first thing that come to mind when you picture Arizona State University. Nevertheless, when ASU students Madeleine Miller and Bret Bender met each other late last year, they quickly formed Bogan Via after bonding over their mutual love of vintage synthesizers and 1980’s synth pop. Below you can hear “Copy and Paste,” a cut off the duo’s eponymous debut EP.
The pulsating and ominous electronics paired with Miller’s ghostlike soprano give the track an almost otherworldly feel. When Bender takes over vocal duties just before the two-minute mark, the track enters full on Gary Numan-style hypnotic pop territory. Thankfully, this is one that you probably won’t mind being mesmerized by for extended periods of time.
