Following in the footsteps of Animal Collective and the Beastie Boys, Damon Albarn’s Gorillaz will launch their own shoe line in February 2012 as part of a collaboration with Converse (footsteps, get it?). Designed by Gorillaz co-creator Jamie Hewlett, the shoes will “combine the iconic Chuck Taylor All Star silhouette with the band’s legendary graphic images.” Take a peep at the first of four designs above.
Alongside the release of fresh kicks, Gorillaz will also contribute a new song to Converse’s “Three Artists. One Song” project, which was previously responsible for the random-ass pairing of Matt & Kim, Soulja Boy, and Andrew WK. No word yet on the details of the Gorillaz track, so stay tuned as more is announced. To order your own pair of Gorillaz shoes, stay tuned to Converse.com.
In celebration of the line’s launch, Converse and Gorillaz will hold a “Gorillaz Sound System” event on December 1st at London’s 100 Club. The event will be a “unique audio-visual experience, featuring music, live percussion and special projections.” For more info and ticket prices, head here.
