Swedish House Mafia party to compete with Ultra Music Festival

on December 14, 2010, 4:50pm

Fans of every genre have ways to spend their summers engrossed in music. Indie fans might hit up festival of the year Sasquatch!, while jam-banders can be found at Mountain Jam. If you party to house music, you might head to Ultra Music Festival, perhaps followed up by doing this for 16 straight Mondays on the island of Ibiza, Spain. Leastways that’s what Swedish House Mafia did this past summer. This year, however, the trio of DJs Axwell, Steve Angello, and Sebastian Ingrosso won’t be returning to the expectedly stacked Ultra Fest. They’ve instead opted for a far more audacious show — on the same weekend, in the same city.

The end of March in Miami recently became dominated by Ultra, to the chagrin of some. Maybe that’s why the boys of SHM chose the weekend to throw a massive party. Christened The One Night Stand at the Masquerade Motel, the ten-hour blowout will happen on March 26th, 2011; the same Saturday as day two of Ultra Music Fest. As per the collective’s website, the event will  be held in a purportedly customized arena and promises to be “bursting with a fantastic light show, special guests and, of course, the boys’ exclusive performance.” Tickets go on sale December 21st, with prices and the actual event location yet to be released.

You’ve got to hand it to the guys; it takes some heavy cojones to compete with a major music festival’s time spot, let alone its location. Whether it ends up a gamble that backfires or a blow to Ultra will be determined come spring. So start thinking about where you want to spend March 26th, and check out the Masquerade Motel announcement video below, featuring clips from Blow, “Black Betty”, and Michael Jackson’s feet.
