Son Lux (born Ryan Lott), the anticon. composer and remixer who made a name for himself with 2008’s At War with Walls and Mazes, has spent the last couple of years composing music for dance companies and remixing My Brightest Diamond albums. Now, he’s released quite an ambitious EP with a very unique concept. Called Weapons, after the track of the same name on At War, the EP features six new versions of the original song, the melody of which finds itself permeating other spots on At War.
Three of these new renditions were made solely by Lott while some friends collaborated with him on the other half. Two remixes, “WEAPONS III” and “WEAPONS VI”, are by label-mates Polyphonic and Alias, respectively. For “WEAPONS IV”, Lott enlisted the help of Manhattan classical composer Nico Muhly, the guy who’s been collaborating with Grizzly Bear and Arcade Fire’s Richard Reed Perry and penning operas. Check out the Polyphonic collab below — although we have a hunch this thing is meant to be heard in order. Track list below.
Oh, he’s also playing South by Southwest, so you’ll probably be able to hear this stuff live.
